I leaned against the sun-warmed wood, and for a moment everything around me seemed to pause – just the sound of the water, the bells in the distance, and that unmistakable Venetian glow.
I’ve stood here so many times before, in different seasons and different moods, but every single visit feels new. Venice has that power – to surprise you, to steal your breath, to make you fall in love with it all over again. And on that summer morning, standing on the Accademia Bridge, I did.
The History of the Accademia Bridge
Unlike the Rialto Bridge, which dates back to the 16th century, the Accademia Bridge is a more recent addition to Venice. Here’s how it came to be:
