This square is best known as the setting for the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, one of Venice’s most important religious buildings. The majestic brick façade of the church dominates the square, while the 14th-century bell tower—the second tallest in Venice after San Marco’s—watches silently over everyone who passes by.
